Ilion Russell G. (Red) Sherman, 95, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Mohawk Valley Health Care, Ilion. Red was born on January 31, 1922 in Ilion the son of the late Eugene and Ruth Purchase Sherman, he educated in Van Hornsville and graduated from Richfield Springs High School. He was married to Ethel Osborne, after Ethel's passing he married Ruth Norton Smith. Red served with the Army- Air Corps during WWll and was employed as a Sales Rep. with Remington Arms for many years until his retirement several years ago. Red was a member of the Jesus Never Fails Church, Rising Virtue Lodge 4 F&AM and a former member of the USAF Reserve. Red is survived by his wife Ruth, a son and daughter in law Eric and Jill Sherman of Enterprise, Al., two step daughters and their husbands Janis and Samuel Colombo and Jill and Phil Dale all of Webster, NY, three grandchildren Jennifer Weeks Juliann Sherman and Jamie Wyatt, three great grandchildren Max, Russell and Jenna Kate Weeks. He also leaves his step grandchildren, Matthew Colombo, Jason and Justine Dale and Jennifer Kau. He was predeceased by his sister Virginia Brewer and his step son Meryl Smith. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday February 21, 2017 from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion, with Pastor Hans Drews officiating, friends may call from 1-3 PM Tuesday. Friends are asked to consider memorials to the N. Columbia Jesus Never Fails Church or the Ilion Moose Lodge 1010, envelopes will be available at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home.
