Ilion Philip G. Johnson, 89, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Ilion. Phil was born February 9, 1928 in Holden, MA, the son of the late Edwin and Elvira Nelson Johnson. He was a graduate of Holden High School and Michigan Institute of Technology. Phil was an ARMY veteran having served as a Sgt. 1st Class and forward surveyor in Korea during the Korean Conflict. On July 6, 1957, he was united in marriage with Angeline Gasperich in Dolgeville, MI; Angie passed away October 7, 2004. Phil was employed with Remington Arms where he was Chief Metallurgist and instrumental in the Powdered Metal Division, retiring in 1987. He was an active parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. Phil is survived by a son Kenneth and his wife Shannon Johnson of Ilion, two daughters Linda and husband Les Bramblett of Prattville, AL, and Patricia and husband Carl Ellis of Rochester, NY. He is also survived by his brother Elden of FL and two sisters Nancy and William O'Conner of Holden, MA, and Janice Johnson of Falmouth, MA. Phil has seven grandchildren: Matthew and Paige Johnson; Carter, Logan, Hayden, and Skyler Ellis; and Nicholas Bramblett. Four brothers, Edwin, Ralph, Bob, and Andrew Johnson, and three sisters, Lillian Erickson, Mae Burgoyne, and Anne Leonard, predeceased him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church Mohawk with Rev. Mark Cunningham officiating assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Interment will take place In Litchfield/ Kinne Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 PM at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home. Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion. Friends are asked to consider memorial to Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk.
