God bless dear Shirley. May she rest in eternal peace. I am saddened to hear of her passing but grateful to know that Carolyn and other family members could be with her at the time of her passage to eternal life. I sure this was a comfort to her and that she was aware of the presence of her loved ones. She loved you all deeply. Every letter she wrote me (and she was a faithful correspondent) was filled with news of her family. I spoke with Shirley briefly about a week ago. She was very peaceful and unafraid to die; a witness to her faith.
I received word of her passing through Jenny - just before our community celebrated our Sunday liturgy (on Sat. evening at 4pm). I asked our celebrant to please remember her in his intentions, which he was happy to do.
Shirley always inspired me as someone who looked beyond herself. She was always doing good for others. She told me once that she didn't have children - so she needed to always think of others the way a mother would her children. I, for one, have benefited from her hand-made nightgowns for over 30 years! My suspicion is that she will be looking to see if the angels' outfits could use a new trim of lace.
Mostly I am happy that Shirley is re-united with her beloved Mary and Jesus, her family and friends. May she pray for us and with us until we are reunited forever in peace and love.
My sympathy, love and prayers are with all the family and very especially Aunt Carolyn.
Sr. Claire
