Ilion Jeanette Slocum-Pezdek, 99, passed away Sunday June, 18, 2017 at the Folt's Home in Herkimer, NY. She was born September 2, 1917 the daughter of the late Robert and Nellie Brooks Patterson and was a 1935 graduate of Ilion High School. On June 12, 1937 she was united in marriage with Oliver Slocum. He passed away in 1974. In 1982 she married Joseph Pezdek, he passed away in 1995. Jeanette was a 75 year member of the Ilion United Methodist Church and a 78 year member of The Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S). Jeanette worked for two local banks, two law firms, and the Ilion Light Commission. She retired in 1982 from the Herkimer County Tax Department. Jeanette is survived by her daughter Diane (Roger) Vaughn of Richfield Springs and son Thomas (Mary) Slocum of Syracuse, four grandchildren: Kenneth, Susan, Mark, Erin Leigh, and her great grandchildren, Sid, Ryan, Shy, Joshua, Cooper, Justin, Elise; one niece, one nephew and three step children. She was predeceased by her two sisters Marion (William) Hughes and Mary (Walter) Nason. A celebration of Jeanette's life will be held at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego Street, Ilion, NY on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. The calling hours are 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Immediately following, services will be provided by the Rev. Wollaber and the Eastern Star Rite. Interment will follow at the Ilion Armory Hill Cemetery. Friends are asked to consider memorials to the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI), 507 Kent Street, Utica, NY 13501.
