Phillip "Phil" A. Nicastro, 99 of Frankfort, New York passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2017 at the Folts Home in Herkimer.
Phil was born in Frankfort on December 22, 1918, the son of the late Frank and Mary Nicastro. After graduating from Frankfort-Schuyer High School Phil entered the U.S. Army serving in WWII as a Sgt. First Class, from 1941 to 1946. Phil married the former Florence Rappa on April 18, 1942. They spent 53 years together until her passing in October, 1996. Phil worked as a cook and managed the commissary store at Griffiss Air Base until his retirement several years ago.
Phil was a life member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and The Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the CCC from 1937-1940 and the Columbia Federation. Phil was also an avid bingo player and loved to cook.
Phil is survived by his sons, Francis and his wife, Francesca of Manassas VA, Benjamin and Richard and his wife, Linda of Frankfort; a daughter in law, Pamela Nicastro of Skaneateles; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Philip P. Nicastro who passed away in September of 2013, as well as his brothers Charlie, Tony and Salvatore Nicastro.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday May 10, 2018 at 11:30am at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort, with Fr. Paul Catena officiating, interment will follow in the Mt. Oliviet Cemetery in Frankfort. In keeping with Phil's wishes there are no public calling hours. Friends are asked to please consider memorial donations in Phil's name to one's favorite charity.
