J. Mark Fahey Marietta, Georgia – Ilion, NY James Mark Fahey, 80, died August 3, 2018, with family by his side in Marietta, Georgia. Mark was born June 2, 1938, in Herkimer, NY to Helen Harris Fahey and James Fahey. A graduate of Herkimer High School, he married his High School Sweet Heart, Ellen Walrad in 1959. He lived with her for 25 years in Herkimer, 18 years in Ilion, 12 years in Port Saint Lucie, Florida and their final years in Marietta, GA. Mark had immense pride in being a teacher at Ilion High School for 32 years. He was a major influence on students, many of whom remind us of such 25 years after his retirement. In addition to coaching basketball in his early years, his passion for youth and education was evident when he and others pioneered the PTA at St. Francis de Sales school where all 5 of his children attended. Mark was an active member and supporter of the Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, Fort Dayton Steamers for many years. For more than 50 years Mark supported the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was an active member in the Herkimer Elk's Lodge, Port St. Lucie Elk's Lodge and in addition to serving a term as Treasurer was a proud Lifetime Member of the Ilion Elk's Lodge. Mark was known for his sense of humor and laughter, love of a cold beer at the lake and ability to do the NY Times Sunday crossword in an hour. He never met a stranger and many a family holiday was shared with a friend or colleague who may not have had people to share with. Mark was predeceased by his wife Ellen and their daughter, Jan Redmond. He is survived by 4 children: Mark of High Point, NC, Cindy and Peter Brown of Marietta, GA, Karen Kohler of Clifton Park, NY and Rob and Kris Lennox Fahey of Ilion, NY. He will also be missed by his son-in-law, Stephen Redmond and 13 grandchildren living in NY, GA, NC, WA, Il, OH, AR and TX. Per Mark's wishes, a prayer memorial will be held in Marietta as well as a private graveside prayer service in Ilion at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Ilion Elk's Lodge Building Fund, 8 West Street, Ilion, New York 13357.
