Ilion Herbert Richard Rockwell, 93, passed away Sunday November 25, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Health Care. He was born December 5, 1924 in Salisbury the son of the late Richard W. and Mary (Bradley) Rockwell and was educated in Stratford Schools. After high school he was drafted into the U S Army serving with the 101st. Airborne 2nd battalion F Company in Europe. He participated in the Battle of The Bulge, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. His family was very proud of his service in the military. He was one of the few World War II vets interviewed for the movie, The Fighting Fox Company (Band of Brothers). He was married to the former Irene Slater, she passed away on August 7, 2001. Herbert was employed as a Quality Assurance Manager at Cramer Co. in Connecticut, they specialized in electric motors. He was involved in inventing the first brushless motor. He is survived by three children Gloria Martin of Dolgeville, Douglass Rockwell of Salisbury and Tim Rockwell of Dolgeville; his step children Michael Herringshaw, Ronald Herringshaw, Richard Schuyler, Paul Schuyler, Sheila Tardiff. He also leaves two sisters Betty Moore and Joan Moore, two sisters in law Betty Harrigan and Carol Boyer also several grand, great grandchildren including step and one great great grandchild. In keeping with Herbert's wishes there are no public calling hours, a graveside service with Military Honors will be held in the spring in the Mohawk Cemetery, John St. Mohawk, with the Rev.
