Obituary of Joyce Countryman

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce E. Countryman of Mohawk passed away peacefully on January 21, 2019 at the age of 89. She was one of the first woman matrons at the Herkimer County Jail, the first female dispatcher at the Mohawk Police Department and worked 25 years for Dr. Joseph Conigliaro. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Ethyl (Meacham) Morrisette, sister Shirley Lockwood, her dearest friend Vivian Bouck and special friend Jim Watkins. Their special relationship lasted for decades and Jim’s children were Mrs. C’s second family. Joyce will lovingly be remembered for her smile, her kindness and creativity, hand painted rocks, homemade cards, her frugality and for always having a camera in her pocketbook. Think of her kindly whenever you see a flamingo. She is survived by her sister Laurel Morrisette of Ilion, son Alan of Minneapolis, Minnesota, daughter Elaine (Scott) Jensen of Hinckley, Minnesota, grandchildren Sheila and Steve (Stephanie) and two great grandchildren Brennen and Lorelai. Also many nieces and nephews with special thanks to niece Maxine Harodecki and neighbor Betty Darrow for their devoted care and kindness. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 23 at Mohawk Reformed Church. Arrangements are made by Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home of Ilion. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to her church or a charity of your choice in her memory.
