Ilion Dale B. Lewis, 70 of Ilion, passed away, unexpectedly, on Saturday February 16, 2019 at Little Falls Hospital. Dale was born on December 18, 1948 in Herkimer. He was the son of the late Ben and Virginia (Eddy) Lewis, he was a graduate of Ilion Schools and served in the US Army stationed in Anchorage, AK. In 1974 he was united in marriage to the former Charlene Wentworth. Dale worked as a gunsmith at Remington Arms, retiring in 2014 after 47 years of service.. Dale wasis President of the Ilion Fish and Game Club and taught hunter safety for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Mohawk American Legion. Dale is survived by his wife Charlene; his sons Ryan of Ilion and Kevin and his wife Jennyie of Mohawk; sister in law Maureen and her husband Dave brothers Dave and his wife Maurine of Chisholm VA. A brother in lawand George and his wife Jayne of Oneida; sisters in law Shireen and Coleen Wentworth of Oneida; 2 grandchildren Kara and Nicholas; a cousin Charles Thomes of IN, as well as several nieces and nephews and close friends.. He is predeceased by two sons Neil in 1989 and Erik in 2018 and a sister Deborah. A funeral service, for Dale, will be held on Friday February 22 at noon, at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. Deacon James Bower will officiate. Friends may call on Friday from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Interment will be in the spring in Armory Hill Cemetery, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, Dale's family request donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the American Diabetes Association, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
