We moved into our present home here in Ilion in November,2001. On the night of our arrival, there was a knock at our side door, and there stood Phyllis Anderson and her husband Dr. Jim, offering their heartfelt welcome to the neighborhood and giving us the "low down on all the questions we could possibly have asked about our new neighborhood. That's how both of them were: friendly, kind, accepting, sincere, helpful, and extremely perceptive. Our arrival couldn't have been too easy for them; we'd purchased our home from their 50-year friends Dr. and Mrs. Roger Weeden, whom then obviously greatly missed. But they both accepted and welcomed us readily, and a fond friendship developed. I can remember Phyllis gently scolding me when I suggested to her that I intended to go to the County Veteran's Office to correct an apparent oversight and make sure that her husband received his much deserved POW Medal from his WWII Army Air Corps Service: ("Jim would never want that..;He hates such fuss!") :We remember their unceasing wise counsel :"Please don't;He'd never want that!" I remember Phyllis bring a sample of her prized homemade pesto sauce (made from ingredients grown in their own garden, which they both so diligently and lovingly tended) and we remember their unceasing wise counsel and enthusiastically told stories of the history of our neighborhood and village..One winter, after a particularly deep and unexpected snowfall,, we dug out their driveway (as we sometimes did) late at night, to find Phyllis standing on their back stoop offering us steaming cups of hot cocoa . I remember Phyllis playfully fussing at our daughter Lynne Marie (visiting from her home in Tennessee at the time) for climbing up on their roof to sweep of debris, We especially remember our sense of real loss when she and her husband told us that their home had gotten to be too much upkeep for them, and they were moving, if only a few blocks away.(Now that we're both in our 70's, we can far better understand their decision.) In short, with Dr. and Mrs. Anderson, we mourn the loss not just of friendly neighbors, but of fond friends, and exceptional human beings: talented, gracious, and generous in every sense. God bless you both Jim and Phyllis; the world is a lesser place without you!. .

Laurie- so deeply sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. In a quieter way, she was as pioneering as your dad, and was a remarkable lady. Yours is a truly blessed family. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Please accept my sincere condolences at this very difficult time, and as you mourn the death of your dear beloved Phyllis, may you find some comfort in the promises of our loving heavenly Father recorded at John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:3, 4. We eagerly look forward to the days when the words found at 1 Corinthians 15:25, 26 will be fulfilled and we never have to fear losing our loved ones ever again.

Laurie, Phillip and Christine, what wonderful memories of a neighborhood that ended long ago. When I think of your Mom I always remember her being sharp as a tack, even later when she still resided in Ilion and we would cross paths there was never a time she was not able to fill me in on everyone. The Weedens had great neighbors over the splitting fence. I'm sure your hearts are full.
