Dear Uncle John,
I will always remember traveling upstate as a child to see you and your family. We shared so many things, laughter, family, fun times, dogs named Fluffy. Plus, you had a great pool table! One thing I love about you is you can tell a great story. Whether relating tracking bears at camp or great salmon expeditions, you always made me laugh and you always made me feel loved. I will miss you, Laura

John was a wonderful man and a great father. I will always remember the great conversations I had with him and the hikes up at the lake. He always took the time to make every person feel special.
In loving memory,

From Peter, Eleanor and Victoria
April 25,2023
John was our wonderful neighbor and friend at Twitchell
Lake. We will always treasure our fond memories of him.
Within days of our arrival in 1986, he welcomed us with offers of help in the ways of the woods--plus a few friendly, but firm, instructions about how to improve the natural environment. We could listen, and often did, to his stories about the lake told with wit and mischievous humor. We watched with great admiration as he introduced a new water pollution control system, first on Twitchell and then on other Adirondack lakes. Our daughter Victoria will never forget how he showed her where to find the bullhead that won her the kids’ fishing prize that year. As our forest ranger Terry Perkins told us, “Some people are content to let others do the work…John goes out of his way to help his neighbors.” We are honored to have been among his friends, thank him for being there and introducing us to his amazing family. We will miss him very much.

Thanks for the info Brian,
Sad for your family and for our whole Lake- your dad was a pillar, a legend, to us. My wife and I joined his "tablet crew," read his conservation and septic safety writeup, and went out inspecting septic tanks around the lake. We got to see most of the old camps from the inside. AND we watched our lake go from e-coli dangerous to almost drinking quality. Thanks to your Dad! I used to get bad boils every summer as a teenager, now I realize, from the ecoli that poured into the lake from bad septic systems, Not any more. If I lived closer I would come to the memorial service. My prayers and regards for the family and friends who are there. Your dad was a great man.

John really saw the woods and the wilderness, and he accepted his friends and neighbors with unvarying warmth and regular amusement. A story from John was a nicely wrapped gift.
John's spirit will linger at Twitchell Lake for a long, long time.

To Gail & children
Just a few words to express my condolences
to all of you. I worked with John at Prudential from
1970 to 1986. We hit it off immediately. We shared many conference vacations together. He was a gentleman who taught me a few things about the business and life. His sense of humor was wonderful and it would take him 5 minutes to tell a 2 minute joke.
We'd laugh at his slow timing,, Even thou we lost track of each other I never forgot him. May he rest in peace in heaven.
Your friend

Larry and I will miss John, as a friend, neighbor and just one of the nicest person. Larry enjoyed his time with John at Twitchell Lake, even though Larry wasn't a hunter,he liked to stay with John and keep him company. John always enjoyed seeing what Larry was making in the wood shop, the cookies I sent over,or just what was new with us. We also remember the many Tuesday nights going out to dinner with Peg and Dick. He will be dearly missed,

My dad and I had a wonderful relationship, he was my best buddy, I learned so much from him. Growing up it was knowing how to work hard and play hard. He supported me in sports and life lessons, taught me how to fish and hunt, and hundreds of things at camp from mixing concrete, putting in a septic system, to roofing and siding. There were always trails to clear, trees to drop, wood to split and trout to catch in the bay.
Later in life he supported me through college and my professional life, listening to the latest work-life obstacles and offering a few words of wisdom that always hit the mark. He developed a wonderful following as an environmentalist and collaborated with many families and friends on Twitchell Lake to make it a better place.
He maintained a wonderful tradition of hunting camp and was particular about who could attend, he really wanted to make sure we had compatibility and respect for each other and the woods. He loved entertaining at camp and connecting with folks on the lake, that was my dad.
My daughter Lauren gave me a mug that reads "You are the dad they everyone wishes they had". I don't know if that's truly me but I can say without hesitation that was my father.
