Ilion - Kim Marie Knapp, 61, of Ilion, passed away on May 8, 2023 surrounded by loving family in her home after a courageous battle with MS. Kim was born February 13, 1962 in Ilion the daughter of the late Thomas and Sandra Geraty Knapp. She graduated from Herkimer Senior High School, class of 1980 and continued her education in accounting at Herkimer County Community College and obtained her Bachelors Degree from SUNY College of Technology. Kim was employed with Spring Air Mattress in Utica and was a longtime employee, managing the accounting at The Evening Telegram in Herkimer. Kim also managed her own Income Tax Service for many years, serving many customers in the surrounding area. Kim is survived by her loving family, Mark and Diane Knapp of Northville, New York, Craig Knapp and husband Andi of Atlanta, Georgia; her three special and loving nephews, Jason Knapp (Nicole), Kyle Knapp, Steven Knapp (Bridgette) and family dog Caesar. Kim was predeceased by her loving father, Tom Knapp, Mother Sandra Geraty Knapp and sister Sherri Knapp. She was also predeceased by her loving dog Tipper. Kim enjoyed spending many years at her family home at Brantingham Lake. She was an avid water-skier who always loved the sun, driving the boat and helping Mom and Dad at camp. She loved making sure her lovely home was just beautiful. She enjoyed sitting on her back porch and enjoying all her plants and landscaping. As her disease with MS progressed, we want to thank all of the friends and family who would come and visit her and Dad, bringing so many acts of kindness. Kim appreciated all the visits by family and friends during her final weeks. We want to thank Kim’s team of loving caretakers for the compassion and care they provided for our sister. The family would like to invite friends and loved ones to celebrate Kim’s life this Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 100 Otsego St. in Ilion with Deacon Wally Plock, officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home. Interment for both Kim and her father, Tom Knapp will take place on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 10:00 AM in West Schuyler Cemetery on Newport Rd. in Schuyler. Kim has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National MS Society, PO Box 91891, Washington, DC, 20090-1891.
